Riding on a motorbike from Saigon to Vung Tau sounded like a fun idea, but it turned out to be a very tiring trip! One can only sit on the motorbike for so long before requiring a rest break before continuing on the journey. The way roads are constructed in Vietnam makes traveling anywhere twice as long compared to America. But this allowed us to stop and rest in the hammock cafes :)
Our second trip was to visit my aunt in Bien Hoa and we decided to take the public bus to get there since it was a public holiday and traveling on a motorbike was dangerous with all the traffic. What an experience the bus ride was! At every stop to pick up passengers, people would hop on the bus selling all sorts of snacks and knickknacks. There were also panhandlers that asked for money and was able to receive donations. Apparently this is normal in Vietnam but I was taking everything in for the first time! The bus driver would decide to rest as long as he decided at the stops so I wasn't really sure how long it would take for us to arrive!
A break away from the city was much needed & it was nice to be in the countryside with family. I am so ready for Thailand tomorrow! :)
On the ferry to cross the river from Saigon:
Fields of cassava!
Resting at a hammock cafe :)
Grandma!
Delicious banh tieu with mung bean filling. I had 5 for myself!...
Yummy banh khot that required right ladies making it nonstop for this busy place!
Visiting Christ the King statue in Vung Tau:
Picking Sake's from grandma's backyard with my aunt & cousin to making it fresh to eat it!
